Can I get a Watt Watt! Toronto Light Festival

Watt, watt!

If you’ve enjoyed the Happy Place pop up or Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors, the annual Toronto Light Festival is definitely for you! This fest will brighten up your nights during the darkest hours of the month. Held in the historic Distillery District, and showcasing Canadian and international artists, this show transforms the block into an open-space gallery.

Toronto Light Festival - Hexagonal of radiating lights with a disco ball casting additional lights.

Torontonians tend to hibernate this time of the year, and why not? It’s feet-freezing cold! And the Winnipegians are laughing as us because they literally got snow up to their chins. It is time to come out from our cozy burrows and into the light.

This fest will brighten up your nights during the darkest hours of the month.

Make a light meal out of it!

This is an Instagrammer’s haven, with interactive exhibits and Lights EV. VER. RY. WHERE. Quickly duck under the kaleidoscopic hexagonal dome for that perfect snapshot. Don’t mind the chill? Dance under the rainbow disco ball. Finally getting cold? Dance over to the Pure Spirit Oyster and Grill patio to catch a bit of that wildfire glow (You’ll totally get the reference once you see it.)

If you start to lose feeling in your toes, grab a warm meal at Mill Street, and if you need a little libation to loosen up those joints, hop into the Spirit of York for their spirit tasting. Don’t forget about the famous Soma Mayan Hot Chocolate that’s clearly designed to perk up even the chilliest mood. So this is fun for the whole family.

Here are just a few things we learned:

  1. Dress warm. I cannot stress this enough. It is freakin’ chilly.
  2. You’ve got to wait your turn — for everything. It’s busy and everyone wants a snap, so lineups are the name of the game.
  3. It’s okay to interact with the art. We touched everything!
  4. Kid-friendly in early evenings, but after 7 is when the adults come out to play.
